How was Misfits Productions formed?
In 2019, the official Witches Ball torch was passed down to one of the founding members of the Krewe De Isle of Misfits, and it quickly became clear that we would need a dedicated and talented team to pull this off. Throughout the years, we have gained a number of krewe members with a variety of useful skillsets, many of whom also have years of professional creative experience under their belts. We have all worked together well in the past as a group to put on memorable and unique Mardi Gras experiences, and so it seemed a natural fit to expand our horizons!
For a lot of our members, this is something we are genuinely very passionate about. We dedicate our skills, time, and energy, (not to mention costuming abilities) because this is simply what we love to do. One of the benefits of this krewe is that you are a part of a larger vision, and you are embraced by a likeminded community of people with a shared goal. In this case, our collective efforts resulted in Misfits Productions. We truly believe that when everyone’s individual talents and abilities are utilized and appreciated, we can accomplish anything we put our efforts towards.
What kinds of things do the Misfits do?
We have our main seasonal events which include Mardi Gras and the Misfits Ball, but we also tend to collaborate on many different side projects throughout the year. In addition to our main events, we have also previously partnered with the Galveston Theatre & Arts Partnership to host screenings of classic films in the exquisite theatre at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.
When we’re not busy crafting our costumes or preparing for the next event, we can usually be found doing one (or more) of the following activities:
Bubbles, costuming, craft nights, murder mysteries, movie nights, murals, hair, graphic design, welding, building, photography, electricity, experiments, film, music, culinary arts, marketing, graphic design, fine art, consumption, sewing, sailing, magic, parades, COSTUMES, volunteer, skating, social media, lighting, sound, DJ, production, party hard, make lifelong memories and one-of-a-kind friends, and also… whatever we f*****g want.
